UEA joins forces with NCLS

Norfolk Community Law Service has always relied upon the generosity, diversity and expertise of volunteers.  We have enjoyed a particularly long-standing relationship with the University of East Anglia’s Law School, which has supplied us with many student volunteers over the years.

Students have gained experience in a variety of activities, including reception services, administration, research, and advice and advocacy for clients. This relationship has enabled us to develop services and given students an invaluable opportunity to see the Law in practice. . Building on this success and our pilot scheme last year with the help of the Law school Pro Bono Group we have developed a formal partnership with UEA.

NCLS and UEA are both very excited about the future of this scheme and we have already had some great feedback from the students about is value in complimenting their studies. There is no substitute for dealing with real clients with real problems, and we are grateful to all the solicitors on our Free Legal Advice rota that have so enthusiastically supported the students in their desire to learn.

Particular thanks must also go to Alistair Mullis and Gareth Thomas from the Law School at UEA for their support of the scheme and working with NCLS to get it off the ground. In addition thanks of course to all the students so far for helping us achieve such a positive start.

This has now been made possible thanks to the generous support of Sally Davenport, solicitor at Working Law Solicitors, based near Cromer. Sally has been on the rota in Norwich for some time but has been instrumental in getting the Cromer sessions off the ground. Our thanks also go to Neale Grearson of Hayes+ Storr and Tammy Parnell from Quality Solicitors Clapham & Collinge for their unstinting support and time given to deliver the service.

We are also thankful to Lisa Oakley, volunteer, who has generously covered nearly all the reception and admin roles that enable the service to be delivered.

For details of where and when the sessions take place please see our Free Legal Advice Page.
