Your advice session

The appointments are 15 minutes long and are aimed at providing initial advice and guidance about your legal issue.

Who will be advising you?

Our Free Legal Advice (FLA) service provides free, independent legal advice from solicitors and barristers who generously give their time for free. Click here for our Client Care information.

What’s next after your appointment

As a charity we do not have the funding to provide ongoing assistance, however our advisors will always try to point you in the right direction for further advice and guidance.

What’s next?

Step 1:

An initial call

Once we have your information, we will call you to discuss arranging an appointment. Appointments are usually carried out over the phone and must be pre-booked. We can provide face-to-face appointments if required.

Step 2:

Information collection

We will need to collect some information from you before we provide the advice. This information is kept confidential, but helps us to provide anonymised data to our funders.

Step 3:

The advice session

You will speak to one of our solicitors or barristers who generously give their time for free. Occasionally, our student volunteers will sit in on the sessions and take notes.

Step 4:

What next?

In most situations we will provide one advice appointment, but in exceptional circumstances repeat appointments can be provided up to a maximum of three. This is to ensure that we can help as many people as possible, as our service is in high demand.

Step 5:

Service feedback

We will also ask for feedback on the service you received. Please take a few minutes to provide this, as it can help us to make improvements where needed and also helps secure funding to keep our services running.

I have been driven to the point where my children feared for my sanity. It became obsessive, because I knew I had done nothing wrong. But NCLS gave me my voice and the confidence to keep going and eventually I was proven right.
