Alison’s story

If you have a question that isn’t answered below, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Is NCLS approved to give immigration advice?

Yes, we are approved by the Immigration Advice Authority to provide advice at level 3 (the highest level). Our registration number is N201200043. It is a criminal offence to provide advice and help with immigration if you are not approved or are exempt from approval.

I have experienced domestic abuse and I am worried about my immigration status, can you help?

Yes, we can advise you on the options you have and you should contact us straight away, giving us safe contact details for you. You are welcome to come to our office without an appointment. If you feel that you or your family are in immediate danger, you should call the police using 999.

I need to make a late application for the EU Settlement Scheme. Can you help?

Since the UK left the EU, nationals from EU countries living in the UK need to have made an application for permission to live in the UK on the EU Settlement Scheme. The deadline for applying has passed. However, it might still be possible to make a late application, and NCLS can advise on this and help with an application if appropriate.

Can you help with my welfare benefits?

We can provide advice on welfare benefits refusals where the issue involves eligibility on the grounds of right to reside, habitual residence and past presence. We can help from the stage of being refused a benefit and can submit a reconsideration request. We can then go on to appeal if necessary and can represent you at a tribunal hearing. We are not able to help with making applications for welfare benefits.

Can you help with appealing a Home Office refusal?

We are only able to help with appealing decisions when we have helped with the application which has been refused.

I do not have permission to stay in the UK, can you help?

Yes, we will advise you on any options you might have for applying to stay in the UK.

Will getting advice mean that the Home Office will find out my details?

No, we are independent advisers and we are under no obligation to give the Home Office your details. We never provide a client’s details to the Home Office until we help with an application, and we will discuss this with you as part of our advice.

I have a deportation order, can you help?

It is unlikely that we can help with this unless we have already helped you with an application.

I have removal instructions, can you help?

Yes, we can provide advice on this. However, it is not always possible to identify a suitable application route.

I have a family member in immigration detention, can you help?

This will depend on the circumstances. You should contact us straight away.

IAA registered

We are regulated by the Office of the Immigration Advice Authority to provide immigration advice at level 3. Our IAA approval number is N201200043. Click here to verify.

What we can’t help with

We are unable to help with work-based permission or student permission. However, we may be able to help with advice on switching to a different permission. We do not currently help with asylum claims but we are able to help with applications for people who have been granted protection status.

Do you need extra support?

We’re here to help everyone access legal advice.

NCLS has been absolutely terrific, gave us great follow ups and did everything really well. We felt really comfortable with NCLS and like they really cared about our situation.
