Theresa’s story

In 2020 I married a man I genuinely thought was wonderful, but fast forward to 2023 and he was a completely different person that was a danger to me and my children.

I was pregnant at the time and not being from the UK, I had very little support around me. I then, one day opened up to a friend in church about my marriage and just broke down, she told me that none of it was normal and that I really needed help and had to leave this marriage ASAP. She arranged for me to go and speak with a professional and it was then told to me to seek help from NCLS.

There was so much going on at the time and so much to think about and I knew we would end up in court. I had so many worries and I had no idea where to begin or what to do first. Then I rang NCLS and was able to get an appointment to speak with a solicitor. It was that appointment that massively helped me and changed things. It gave me so much relief and understanding on what to do and what the first steps were. It was like a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders and I now had something to understand and work towards. I made notes as I was given so much information and then made a plan and this was just the first phone call.

Over the last few years, I’ve massively relied on and turned to NCLS for lots of advice and help, especially when I was self-representing and the help and support I received was unbelievable, even having solicitors write statements for me and go through all the court paperwork and make sure I understood everything. There were times I genuinely didn’t know what I would have done without NCLS and all the staff that are so incredible and genuinely care and are so supportive as well and just went above and beyond and this has always been my experience with NCLS which is why I recommend them to everyone.

NCLS and the staff that run it and what they offer is something that is desperately needed and something I will always be grateful for that I had in a very hard time in my life.
